Abstract

765,891. Photo-conductive devices. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1954 [Oct. 13, 1953], No. 29052/54. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (a)] A radiation amplifying device for television or motion picture projection comprises either particles of electro-luminescent material 8 each covered by a film 10 of photo-conductive material (Fig. 4) or intermixed discrete particles of electroluminescent and photo-conductive particles 8, 14 (Fig. 5) in each case suspended in insulating material 3 between transparent electrodes 2, 4 and glass supports 1, 5. Additional insulating layers free of electroluminescent and photo-conductive particles may be formed between layer 3 and the electrodes 2, 4. Layer 3 is of cellulose acetate or polystyrene. The photo-conductive material may be cadmium sulphide and the phosphor zinc sulphide/ oxide activated by copper. Where there is feedback, the voltage applied to the assembly is pulsed for a time so as just perceptibly to affect the photo-conductive material by light from the phosphor. A continuous voltage wave may be used when the photo-conductive material is not sensitive to radiation from the phosphor. Specification 749,798, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
