Abstract

765,076. Electroluminescence. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 22, 1954 [Dec. 29, 1953], No. 36080/53. Class 39(1). In an electroluminescent plaque 1 a layer 6 of high dielectric strength positioned between the phosphor layer 5 and one electrode 6 functions as a reflector. The material may be titanium dioxide or barium titanate, produced in the former case by passing titanium tetrachloride and water vapour over the surface at 100<o>-200<o>C. A thin layer of methacrylate applied to the surface to be coated protects it from the hydrochloric acid produced in the reaction. The layers 4, 5 may be or include a synthetic resin e.g. polybutyl methacrylate.
