Abstract

850,846. Electroluminescence. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. July 3, 1959 [May 14, 1958], No. 15540/58. Class 39(1). In an electroluminescent display panel having one electrode layer subdivided into discrete sections, e.g. 13, 14, 15 each of a shape predetermined to give a required luminous pattern, each section is provided with a separate conducting lead 8, these leads being spaced from the electroluminescent layer and from any section of the electrode to which they are not to be connected by an insulating film 6 of low permittivity so that the voltage applied to a lead does not cause the underlying electroluminescent material to luminesce. The leads 8 are connected to terminals 3 at the edge of the panel. A further overall insulating coating may be applied to the panel.
