Abstract
998,342. Cryotrons. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 5, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 26751/63. Heading H1K. The current in the control conductor of a cryotron necessary to switch the gate to the normal conducting condition is made substantially independent of the gate current by using a thin planar layer as the gate conductor and so arranging the control conductor in relation to it that its magnetic field strikes the gate orthogonally. The gate and control conductors are preferably flat parallel strips of the same material, e.g. tin, vapour deposited on a quartz substrate. Typically they are 400 thick and 25 Á apart, the control conductor preferably being narrower than the gate, for instance 20Á to 80Á. This enables a high amplification factor Igo - to be obtained. In all cases the gate Ico conductor must be not more than twice the current penetration depth thick.
