[Also in Group XXXVII] In order to reduce the ageing time of glow switches, a layer of cadmium is electrodeposited on the bimetallic electrode or electrodes to a thickness of 1 to 10% of the electrode thickness. The switch envelope is then evacuated and the temperature is simultaneously raised to at least 290‹C, thereby evaporating off some of the cadmium. The envelope is then filled with argon and sealed off.
