724,512. Safety-catch gear. BRADBURY & SONS, Ltd., J., and POWELL, V. Nov. 2, 1951 [Nov. 15, 1950], No. 27981/50. Class 78 (3). Catch gear for use on each corner of the vehicle hoist described in Specification 724,511 comprises a stationary rod 11 and a bell-crank lever 10, 18 which is moved by a spring 20 about a pivot 13 on the platform structure, into a position in which a notch in its arm 10 bites into the rod 11, when a roller 19 on its arm 18 is allowed to move clockwise due to breakage of the hoisting rope 4. As shown, the rod is supported at the top only by a spherical nut and seating 16, 17 which allows the rod to float, but in a modification (not shown) the rod is anchored top and bottom and constitutes a guide for a sleeve secured to the platform structure.
