Abstract
721,395. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. GASKELL & CHAMBERS, Ltd. June 8, 1953. [June 30, 1952] No. 16379/52. Class 102 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A tap, more especially for controlling the discharge of beer from a barrel under gas pressure, comprises rotary, conical plug e providing a liquid discharge nozzle g and formed with passages for interconnecting a gas supply b with a connection c to the barrel and for connecting a liquid passage d from the barrel to the nozzle g. The passages consist of an axial bore i connecting two radial bores b<SP>1</SP> at right angles to each other with two similar bores c<SP>1</SP>, and an axial passage j connecting the nozzle g with two radial bores d<SP>1</SP> at right-angles. From the closed position shown, the plug may be rotated clockwise through 90 degrees to interconnect the gas supply b with the barrel connection c whilst keeping the liquid passage d closed, further movement in this direction being arrested by a stop m coacting with an arcuate groove k in the plug. The plug may then be turned anticlockwise, through 180 degrees to open the liquid outlet but interrupt the gas connections and then through a further 90 degrees to interconnect the gas passages b, c and simultaneously open the liquid outlet. A throttling screw n may be fitted into the gas supply passage b, as shown, or within the plug e.
