719,734. Flexible couplings. SILENTBLOC, Ltd. June 16, 1953 [June 30, 1952], No. 16374/52. Class 80 (2) In a flexible coupling between driving and driven flanges A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, a pin E is slidable freely in a bush K in each of two or more bores A' in flange A<SP>1</SP>, and a reduced 'part E' of each pin extends into a similar bore B<SP>2</SP> in flange B<SP>1</SP> and is resiliently secured therein by a rubber bush C<SP>2</SP>. The latter is united to inner and outer sleeves C, C<SP>1</SP> by friction or bonding, sleeve C<SP>1</SP> being a force fit in bore B<SP>2</SP> and extending somewhat beyond the ends of the bore while sleeve C is a press fit on pin E<SP>1</SP> and extends slightly beyond the ends of sleeve C'. Rubber washers D embrace the ends of sleeve C' between the sides of flange B<SP>1</SP> and rigid washers G, the sleeve C and washers G being clamped'between a nut F and the shoulder E<SP>4</SP> of the pin. A head E<SP>2</SP> on the pin limits the free axial movement, while the rubber washers D and bush C<SP>2</SP> resiliently resist further axial movement. A metal ring H may surround each washer D, preventing radial expansion of the washer and tending to exclude grease or oil; or the washers G may have axial flanges partially embracing the washers D. The washers D, G may have spherical engaging surfaces. The bush K may be of self-lubricating type or may be lubricated from a nipple E<SP>6 </SP>through a passage E<SP>5</SP>.
