Abstract

716,813. Electron beam apparatus. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. March 3, 1952 [June 29, 1951], No. 5490/52. Class 39(1) A cathode ray tube has beam forming means comprising a first electrode 17 with first and second apertures, a second electrode 20 having a third aperture and a third electrode 22 with a fourth aperture, the axial spacing between the first and third aperture closely approximating 12 times the diameter of the said first aperture and/or the axial spacing between the third aperture and the fluorescent screen of the tubes being about 2.67 times the axial spacing between the first and third apertures. The diameters of the first, second, third and fourth aperture and the spacings between the first and third apertures and between the third aperture and the screen vary by not more than 25 per cent from the ratios 100, 16, 130, 20, 1200 and 3250. The axial dimension of the deflecting plates 24, 26 is about 31 times the diameter of the second aperture. The ratio of the parallel spacing of the deflection plates and the axial dimension thereof is 3:5. The control grid 16 encloses the cathode and heater assembly. Further dimensions, voltages and deflection sensitivities for a digital storage tube are given in the Specification.
