Class 106 (2) An apparatus for measuring the tension in a warp sheet of threads comprises a body 4, Fig. 1, with a rectangular frame 3 at its base. An upwardly biased plunger 9, geared to a dial gauge 11, carries at its lower end a flat wedge 6, carrying a deflecting member 7 having conically shaped flanges 8 at its ends. In operation, the plunger 9 is depressed until the wedge 6 is in the position shown in chain lines in Fig. 1 and held above the warp threads 18 as shown in Fig. 4. The apparatus is then lowered, causing the threads 18 to be pushed aside by the wedge 6, until the member 7 is below the threads 18 as in Fig. 5 and the whole is then turned through 90 degrees so that the member 7 is at right angles to the threads 18, Fig. 6. The threads 18 then return to their normal position and on release of the rod 9 the member 7 rises and all the threads 18' between the flanges 8 are drawn up against the restraining influence of the frame 3, Figs. 7 and 8. The height to which the plunger 9 is able to rise is a measure of the tension in the threads 18, the dial gauge 11 being used to indicate such tension.
