Abstract
843,515. Extensometers. SCANIA-VABIS A.B. Nov. 19, 1957, No. 36052/57. Class 40 (1). An extensometer consists of a body part and three angularly deflectible legs connected thereto and having indentors to be placed on a surface to be tested, each of the legs being deflectible in a different non- parallel plane substantially perpendicular to the surface. The device is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 5 where the legs 3 are pivoted at points 14 and have indentors 4. The body member is shown at 5. Deflection at the legs is detected by means of strain gauges 12 and 13 arranged between each pair of legs connected in bridge circuits, Fig. 9 (not shown). Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown) give a detailed mechanical construction of the device. The body member may be fitted either with a strong magnet or a suction cup for attaching the device to other than upward facing horizontal surfaces. The deflection of the legs may be detected inductively or capacitively instead of by resistance strain gauges.
