Abstract

763,226. Electric measuring systems. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND, Ltd. May 25, 1955 [May 27, 1954], No. 15699/54. Class 40 (1). A piezo-electric bimorph 10 is clamped at one end 11 and used as a cantilever beam to measure vertical acceleration, the deflection at the free end being determined by strain gauges 12, 13 in a bridge circuit ABCD whose unbalance voltage is fed through an amplifier 15 and applied to the prepared surfaces of the bimorph by leads 16, 17 to reduce the deflection of the beam to substantially zero. The voltage applied to the bimorph is proportional to the suppressed deflection and therefore proportional to the acceleration. The strain gauges 12, 13 may be replaced by a differential capacitor. Specification 763,225 is referred to.
