Abstract

750,445. Electric transducers. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Dec. 31, 1954 [Oct. 28, 1953], No. 29786/53. Class 40(1) Apparatus for measuring the stress in, e.g. a machine part, comprises a load supporting, hollow, cylindrical, steel body 1 (Fig. 1) having a rod 8 screwed at its upper end to a supporting plate 7 secured in a recess at the top of the cylinder, and with its lower end resting on the short limb 13 of a right-angled lever rotatably secured to another plate 16 in a recess at the bottom of the cylinder, whereby a change in stress causes the rod 8 to move the short limb 13 of the lever by an amount which is amplified in the long limb 14 and produces corresponding movement in the armature 35 of a differential transformer type pick-up 20. Temperature compensation is obtained by using materials with suitably matched expansion coefficients.
