The out-of-balance voltage from a strain gauge 71, 72, bridge through which the total current is maintained constant by an amplifier 67, is amplified by a common mode rejection arrangement 66, 68, to control a load 115, 118, so that the current drawn from a battery, which may be at a remote point for 2-wire telemetry, varies linearly with the strain being measured. <IMAGE>
