Abstract
836,719. Sorting by gauging. BONNEFOY, E., WALLE, E. VAN DE, and WALLE, C. VAN DE. Aug. 23, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955]; No. 25835/56. Class 106 (2). A device for gauging and sorting tubes or rods according to their diameters comprises a pair of elements 1 spaced apart by a distance slightly less than the length of the rods to be gauged, each element 1 consisting of a frame carrying a plurality of gauges G, A-E, providing gauge gaps of progressively decreasing width in the downward direction and a pair of fork members 12 driven for continuous vertical reciprocation. Fig. 4 illustrates one of the pair of elements, 1. Rods or tubes 9 to be tested rest on an inclined plane 8; the member 12 rises, carrying a previously gauged tube 18; which rolls down an inclined plane 17 to a sorting device (not shown), and the nose-portion 14 of the member 12 picks up the first tube 10 and carries it over a stop 11. It then rolls on to an edge 13 and then on to a further edge 16, as the member 12 descends. The ends of the rod are stopped by one of each set of gauges G, A-E, and G<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>1</SP>-E<SP>1</SP>, according to their diameters. When the member 12 rises again, the rod is carried on to the plane 17 and then to a sorting device which sends it to one of a plurality of compartments according to its size. The sorting device is electrically-operated and a wiring diagram is shown.
