Abstract
711,518. Reverse-gear; friction clutches. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and JAMES, C. H. March 2, 1953 March 1, 1952], No. 5438/52. Class 80 (2) [Also in Groups XXIII and XXVIII] A shoe scouring tool 2, Fig. 1, is rotated in either direction about a vertically inclined spindle 4 through a belt 14 and a pulley 16, secured to a shaft 18 according to which of two pulleys 22, 24 also secured to the shaft 18 is being driven through crossed and uncrossed belts 26, 32, respectively by pulleys 28, 30, freely mounted on a main driving shaft 34, Fig. 3, and forming part of a friction clutch 42. As shown the pulley 30 and a friction disc 60 secured thereto is held by a spring 40 against a clutch disc 44 secured to the shaft 34, whereas pulley 28 and an associated friction disc 52 are held away by pins 62 slidably mounted in the disc 44 and so rotate freely on to shaft 34 being driven from the shaft 18 through the belt 26. Changeover is effected by a cam surface 76 of a.treadle operated lever 68 forcing a ball 88 against a cross-pin 90 of the pulley 28 along a slot 92 thereby forcing the friction disc 52 against the driving disc 44; the pulley 30 being axially displaced from the disc 44 against the spring 40 by the pins 62. Specifications 404,004 and 426,088, [both in Group XXIII], are referred to.
