Abstract

515,164. Drilling &c. machines. CASH, J. May 26, 1938, Nos. 15687 and 23957. [Class 83 (iii)] Means for driving drilling and like machine tools comprises an individual motor 8 or transmission unit secured to a displaceable carrying member 7, a V-belt driving means for connecting the driving shaft to the shaft 11 of the machine tool and means for effecting a movement of the carrying member so as to tension the belt or to relieve the tension as required. The motor 8, Fig. 1, is carried by a shaft 7 axially displaceable within horizontally aligned bearings at the head of the column 6 of the machine. Springs 13 normally urge the motor towards the machine but the motor may be moved outwardly to tension the belt by means of a cam ring 15 rotatable on the shaft 7 by means of an arm 16 and bearing against a collar 14 on the shaft 7. The motor drives a lubricant pump 19. In a modified form, Fig. 4, the motor is replaced by a gear box 23 having a shaft 23a and pulley 25 adapted to be driven by a belt. The shaft 7 on which the gear box is mounted may be moved axially by means of a member 7b rotatable by a lever 27 and formed with a cam slot 7c into which projects a member 6b depending from the machine frame.
