[Also in Group XXIII] A circular saw is adapted for conversion to a routing or drilling machine for operating on wood or metal by providing, in a plate 6 attached to the driving motor 5, a countershaft 23 which, on removal of the saw disc from the motor shaft 13, can be driven by fitting a gear or belt drive 17, 20, 35 between the two shafts; the plate 6 is preferably formed, as shown, by the flat portion of a saw guard. The motor is pivotally mounted in a yoke 4 carried by a member. 1 slidable in a tubular guide 2 and the guide is turnable on a vertical column 3. The pulley 17 is secured to a saw-clamping flange 14 by screws 18 and a spacing collar 19 and nut 15. A cylindrical bearing 22 for the counter-shaft is bolted to the saw guard 6 and the end of the counter-shaft has a bore 32 for the shank of a peg-type routing or other tool 33, the shank being held by grub screws in holes 34.
