Class 64(2) [Also in Groups XVII and XXX] In a method of, or apparatus for, heating or cooling granular material, the material is caused to flow in a plurality of separate streams which are subjected to vibration to remove occluded air and thus compress the material and then reunited, the heating or cooling being effected during or after the compression. As shown, the material is caused to flow through pipes 21, 21<SP>1</SP>, 21<SP>2</SP> ............... extending through a chamber 22 having an inlet 24 and outlet 24' for a heating or cooling medium. A flange 20 at the upper end of the chamber rests on springs 26-26<SP>3</SP> supported by frames 27-27<SP>3</SP> .and carries vibrators 25, 25<SP>1</SP>.
