782,558. Removing gases from molten metal. BOCHUMER VEREIN FUR GUSSSTAHLFABRIKATION AKT.-GES. Dec. 16, 1955 [Dec. 16, 1954], No. 36204/55. Class 72 In apparatus for extracting gases from molten metal by subjecting the melt to a sub-atmospheric pressure comprises a filter element inserted in a passage conducting the gases from the melt. As shown, a filter housing 4, containing cloth filter bags 3 closed at one end and open at the other to a duct, is interposed between the vessel containing the melt and the apparatus producing the reduced pressure. The gases from the melt enter the housing from a valve 2, are deflected by a baffle 11, and pass through the filters' 3 where any condensate which might be injurious to the pumping equipment is removed. A valve 6 on the outlet of the housing is arranged to admit air suddenly to clean the filters by "blow back".
