Abstract

731,012. Strainers. HEYMANN, H. April 14, 1953 [May 2, 1952], No. 10106/53. Class 46. Liquid is separated from sludge by causing the latter to flow over a flexible surface, e.g. a filter cloth 3, Fig. 1, pervious to liquid but impervious to sludge and resting on a plurality of spaced elements, e.g. rubber covered wires, Fig. 2, subjected to vibration. The cloth 3 is stretched over an inclined frame 4 providing outlet shoots 17, 19 for liquid and sludge respectively and mounted on supports 20 which are oscillated in known manner by a motor driven exciter 22 ; the 'supports 20 and a countermass 21 being inter-coupled by leaf spring 25. The lower ends of the wires 2 are connected to a cross-strut 6 and the upper ends are secured to a tensioning roller 7. Cross-struts 11, 12 act as nodal points for alternate wires which therefore vibrate at higher harmonies of their natural frequency, and longitudinal guide wires 31 hold the cloth 3 on the wires 2 which are arranged to form shallow arcuate sections. Additional liquid is added to the sludge during its passage over the cloth 3.
