Abstract

499,031. Sifting and straining apparatus. NORDBERG MANUFACTURING CO. June 17, 1937, No. 16922. Convention date, March 22. [Class 117] [Also in Group I] Apparatus for screening or straining solid material consists of a sieve 53 which is supported at one end on rubber blocks 24 held by clamping means which allow linear movement of this end of the screen and at its other end is suspended by springs 86. The screen is driven by a rotary unbalanced shaft mounted in bearings on the screen frame. Preferably, the shaft is driven from a stationary motor 100 and a stationary shaft 103 which is connected to the unbalanced shaft through a flexible coupling. Lateral movement of the screen is prevented by transverse bolts and cushioning devices 92, 93, Fig. 9, between it and the frame. The feed trough 13 is stationary and connected to the screen frame by a diaphragm 40 of rubber. The screen mesh 53 is tensioned over transverse supports 48 by means of clamps 61 adapted to draw down the ends into U- shaped recesses in the frame. The supports 48 are disposed to impart a camber to the mesh and are provided with rubber cushions 49, Fig. 14, fitting tightly against the mesh. The side edges of the mesh rest on cushioned ribs on the frame and leakage of material over the sides is prevented by hollow cushion members 55 fitting into inverted channel ribs placed thereabove.
