252,313. Bird Machine Co., (Assignees of Clarke, R. S.). May 19, 1925, [Convention date]. Rotary strainers.-A pulp screen is mounted in a vibrating vat supported entirely by flexible supports. The vat 18 rests on brackets 19, 20 bolted tc laminated leaf springs 21, 22 and vibrated horizontally by leaf springs 35 connected to adjustable double eccentrics 37, 38 on a driving shaft 16. The material to be screened is supplied to the vat from a trough 42, heavy impurities settle and pass away through a slot 45 and drain 46, floating impurities are carried over an adjustable weir 48 to a trough 50, and the strained pulp passes from the inside of the screen through a spout 5 at one end. Fibre clinging to the screen is washed into a C-shaped trough 55 by jets of water from a perforated pipe 52. This cleaning device is arranged to act on the screen between the highest point and the point where the screen re-enters the pulp in the vat. The trough 55 is pivoted so that it can be turned out of the way. The pipe 52 is provided with a deflector plate 54 to spread the jets.
