Abstract
254,068. Milne, S. May 23, 1925. Rotary strainers; non-rotary straining machines with pulsating elements. - A strainer for paper pulp and the like comprising a perforated drum is provided with a rotary impellor having shaped shallow longitudinal blades which sweep over the inner surface of the drum to produce a pulsating movement of the pulp through the screen. The impellor blades e are mounted on a rotatable shaft d by spoked rings c. The blades may be of various forms one of which of bent sheet metal is shown in Fig. 6. In a strainer arranged for outward flow the drum b which may be rotatable is mounted in a vat a having an inlet g for unstrained pulp, an outlet g<1> for refuse and an adjustable weir f to control the level of the strained pulp. The strainer may be arranged for inward flow, the strained pulp being discharged by g or g<1>, and the refuse being withdrawn from the bottom of the vat.
