Abstract

455,628. Sifting-apparatus. WINKLEMAN, E. J., 121, Washington Avenue, Oakmont, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. April 23, 1935, No. 12241. [Class 117] A screen is suspended horizontally by flexible members at each end having a length not greater than half the longest stroke of the screen, the flexible members being connected to the screen or supporting frame or both by devices which decrease their effective length towards the ends of the stroke. In the form shown, each screen 17 is suspended on short rubber or flexible steel straps 55, 56 the ends of which are clamped between rounded supports 62, 63 and 65, 66, Fig. 3, the upper ends of the straps at the two ends of the sieve being independently horizontally adjustable. Crank plate 20 is operated by motor driven eccentric 10 and in addition to reciprocating trays 15, 16 is connected by rods 23 non-adjustable at one end, to a second crank 24 for operating the other trays, the fixing of the rods 18, 21, 22, 26 and 27 and the rod 23 at one end, to the cranks being adjustable to vary the throw. The number of sieves may be other than four and in the case of a single screen the material may be fed to the centre thereof. The screen swings in an arcuate path but may have an abrupt upward movement towards the end of the stroke. Specification 454,859 is referred to.
