Abstract

710,965. Two-part couplings. CARR FASTENER CO.. Ltd., and KAY, H. G. A. Sept. 17, 1952, [Sept. 25, 1951.] No. 224.43/51. Class 38(1). A plug connector for a single-core screened cable comprises a hollow terminal pin 1 to which the cable core is soldered, a flange 2 of the pin being trapped between cylindrical insulating blocks 6, 7. A metal sleeve 8 in contact with the cable screen a, has an integral flange 9 which clamps the splayed-out end a<SP>1</SP> of the screen against the block 7, the connector parts being clamped together by a cylindrical metal housing 10 with annular end-flanges 11, 12. The housing is in contact with the screen and is therefore earthed. A socket for use with the plug comprises a base constructed of three insulating plates 13-15, a slit cylindrical shell 16 receiving the plug housing 10, and a socket 17 receiving the pin 1. The shell is secured in an aperture in the plate 15 by lateral lugs extending between plates 15, 14. The shell and socket may alternatively be slightly-eccentrically mounted for better contact between the shell 16 and housing 10. The shell may be of non-circular cross-section for line contact with the housing.
