Abstract

<PICT:0710833/IV(c)/1> A textile fabric is dyed by passing it through a dye-bath and through squeezing rollers into a steam pressure chamber which has its inlet and outlet sealed against the atmosphere by a seal of liquid metal. The Figure shows a dyeing apparatus in which the fabric a is passed through a dye-bath b and through squeeze rollers c into a steam pressure chamber e the inlet and outlet of which has a liquid metal seal d1 and d2 respectively. The seal may comprise a molten alloy containing tin, bismuth, cadmium, or lead and having a melting point below 100 DEG C. the alloy being maintained at a temperature below 100 DEG C. during the operation of the dyeing process.
