Abstract

<PICT:0811369/IV (c)/1> Apparatus for liquid treating, e.g. rinsing or tinting fabric in rope form, is described for a rinsing operation and comprises a container 1 from which fabric which may have previously been wet treated is drawn by mangling rollers 12, 13, an overflowing reservoir 7 through which the fabric is lifted, and a column 3 containing a series of plain or indented driven squeezing rollers 9 mounted with their axes of rotation alternately at right angles, the rinsing water being fed from an inlet pipe 6 and directed by funnels 16 having fabric guide rings 17 into contact with the fabric. The speed of lift of the fabric and the volume of falling liquid is adjusted to a value whereby substantially all the liquid in the fabric including that from any previous treatment is squeezed out, the purer falling water rinsing the fabric passing through the upper rollers. One or more of the squeezing devices may have one or two pneumatic tyred rollers. In an alternative construction the squeezing devices are in the form of bars, disposed with their axes horizontal, and in vertical staggered spaced relationship, and a tension device is provided to strain the fabric against the bars as it is lifted. An additional supply of warm treating liquid may be supplied at 27, and weirs of variable height may be provided for both liquid supplies to adjust the rate of flow. The water supply may be automatically opened and shut off with the operation of the machine, and one or more squeezing devices may be provided above the water inlet 6.
