Class 96 The shell of a cylinder mould 1, Figs. 3 and 4, of a paper-making machine is mounted on end-spiders, and is drilled at 19 with rows of holes which are widened at their outer portions, as by counter. sinking to an oval form tapering to the narrower inner portions, the spacing (centre to centre) of the holes in any row being less than the widths of the mouths of the holes measured along the row, and the spacing between the centre-lines of adjacent rows being greater than the widths of the mouths of the holes measured circumferentially, so that ridges 23 are formed. Holes of adjacent rows may be staggered. A three-cylinder machine is described, the zone of each shell not immersed in, or covered by pulp being blocked-off by a coverbox.
