Abstract

1,220,126. Rollers. MILLSPAUGH Ltd. 2 May. 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 22217/68. Heading F2U. A suction press roll for a paper making machine has its outer surface grooved in at least two different directions, the grooves 3, 4 intersecting at suction holes 6 having a diameter greater than the width of the grooves and arranged so that, except at either end of the roll, each hole is connected with at least four adjacent holes. The grooves 3, 4 may be disposed longitudinally and circumferentially, as shown, or they may be in the form of oppositely handed helices. The holes 6 communicate with larger holes (7) in the inner metal shell (8) of the roll.
