Abstract

1,157,407. Rollers. GRIFFITH RUBBER MILLS. 29 March, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 15295/68. Heading F2U. [Also in Division D2] A suction roll for the press section of a papermaking machine comprises a rubber cover on a metal shell, the cover and shell having suction holes 15 therein and the cover having closely spaced grooves 20 intersecting the holes to facilitate removal of water from the paper web and its supporting felt. The holes may be drilled in a spiral pattern and the grooves form parallel spirals of different helix angle to that of the rows of holes. In a modification the grooves form two series of spiral grooves of different helix angles.
