Abstract
709,522. Hardness testing. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd. April 18, 1952 [April 26, 1951], No. 9804/51. Class 106 (2) In an apparatus for testing the hardness of grinding wheels, and comprising a pivoted support 5 carrying a freely rotatable roller 6, loading means 19 on the support 5 urging the roller 6 into engagement with the periphery of the grinding wheel 2, and an indicator 28 responsive to movement of the pivoted support 5 so that the impression made by the roller 6 on the grinding wheel 2 as the latter rotates may be measured, the apparatus is, in addition, so designed that the pivotal axis 8 of the support 5 is above the axis of the roller 6 and such that the indicator 28 is operated by a part of said support remote from the roller 6. The axis 8 may be vertically above the axis of the roller 6. The apparatus is fed to and from the grinding wheel 2 by a lead screw 4 and may include a vibration damping means 29. A diamond dresser 33 for dressing the grinding wheel 2 may be arranged for traversing movement relatively to the wheel 2. Instead of the dresser 33, or in addition thereto, a nozzle may direct air or liquid onto the wheel 2. Specification 709,523 is referred to.
