800,766. Rail-grinders. LANGKAMMERER, K. POTT-[nee LANGKAMMERER], I. and HENTZEN, [nee LANGKAMMERER], M. April 4, 1957 [May 9, 1956], No. 10995/57. Class 60. A rail-grinder comprises supporting rollers 2 travelling on the rail 3, an adjustable grinding wheel 6 operating with its flat face on the rail, and a feeler-device 7 which is led through or immediately beside the hollow grinding shaft 12 so as to contact the rail at the grinding area and transmit to an indicator deviations of that portion of the rail from the straight. The grinding wheel is mounted on the end of the shaft 12 which is driven by bolts 15 from a motor 16 and mounted in a framework 1 carried on the rollers 2. To compensate for wear, the grinding wheel is axially-adjustable by means of a flange 18 which engages a bearing 17 on the shaft and is moved by a hand-operated spindle 19. The feeler-device comprises a roller 7 in engagement with the rail and connected by a rod 8 disposed, as shown, within the shaft 12 to a toothed quadrant 9 which cooperates with a pointer 10 to indicate on a dial 11 movements of the roller 7 relative to the rollers 2. The centre of gravity of the rail-grinder is so positioned as to permit easy swivelling of the device to grind the sides of the rail.
