Abstract

709,274. Thermionic cathode constructions. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Jan. 16, 1951 [May 16, 1950; Aug. 25, 1950], No. 1229/51. Class 39(1) A cathode comprises a tubular mesh 1, Fig. 1, provided at one end with a tubular extension 3 serving as a lead-in and a mechanical support, and at the other end secured to a disc to which the second lead-in 5 is secured. The mesh may comprise a plurality of right-handed and left-handed spirals or a plurality of elliptical filaments, the wires are preferably welded together at the points of intersection. As shown in Fig. 2 the mesh may be welded at the upper end between tantalum rings 6, 7 connected to a nickel disc 10, and at the lower end between tantalum rings 8, 9 connected to the copper lead-in and support 12. The mesh may be of circular cross-section or of elliptical cross-section.
