709,237. Planting seedlings. RAEBURN, C. Jan. 22, 1953 [Feb. 8, 1952], No. 3403/52. Class 6 (1) A machine for planting rioe-seedlings comprises a sledge 7, adapted to be drawn over a paddyfield and having seats for operators who insert the seedlings singly in the forked ends of seedling-carriers 21 pivotally supported by one or more endless chains 18 which are driven so that their lower runs have no movement relative to the ground as the machine advances. The chains are driven by land wheels 10 through a chaindrive 12 to a shaft 14 on which the chainsprockets 16 are mounted. Coulters 25 are aligned with the chains 18 to form furrows for the seedlings. Guides 22, 23 along the upper and lower runs of the chains 18 maintain the carriers in suitable positions for reception and release of the seedlings.
