Abstract

627,325. Planting - machines. T A P P, A. G., and TAPP, E. T. J. May 31,1946, No. 16658. [Class 6(i)] In an agricultural machine for planting crops, two endless belts 18 are arranged side by side extending in the direction of travel of the machine and pulleys 14, 20, 22 are arranged to direct adjacent stretches of the belt so that they converge while at a distance above the ground to grip a plant and diverge when close to the ground to deposit the plant. The pulleys 14 are on the same shaft as the landwheels and are provided with strakes 16 to assist in propul sion. The plants are fed to the belts by a mechanical feeder device of the type described in Specification 627,358. They are gripped by feelers 27 on an endless belt which is moved intermittently by a reciprocal pawl member 32 which is oscillated by a lever 34 arranged in the path of movement of a number of rollers 37 fixed to one of the pulleys 14. A ploughshare 39 opens up the ground for the plants and a pair of wheels 40 closes the ground after planting.
