Abstract
708,537. Rotary motors. ELLIS, S.M. July 31, 1952 [May 2, 1951], No. 10349/51. Class 110(2) A fixed abutment rotary hydraulic motor comprises a disc rotor 4 with two vanes 16 arranged one on each of its faces, these vanes being arranged opposite each other in the axial direction and each working in an almost completely annular chamber 17. To drive the motor, fluid is simultaneously admitted to both chambers in the same sense. In the construction shown, the rotor is keyed to the boss 1 and is of substantially the same width as a washer 9 separating the stator parts 3a, 3b. A stop 11 on the washer co-operates with an abutment 12 on the rotor to permit the rotor to rotate through 330 degrees, the stop moving in a fluid-filled annular chamber 10a which is widened to permit the easy passage of fluid past the abutment except near the stop 11 where a dash-pot action is provided. The vanes 16 have freedom of movement in a radial direction by being arranged to slide between flat surfaces of two bolts 14. Adjacent ends of the chambers 17 are separated by stops 17a, and passages are provided in the rotor parts to admit fluid to the grooves and to discharge it therefrom.
