Abstract

707,322. Drying fabrics. FRANKLIN & SON, Ltd., W., and CLARKE, L. J. Dec 24, 1951 [Dec. 29, 1950], No. 31592/50. Class 34(1) [Also in Group VIII] In a process for finishing fabric (see Group VIII), moistened fabric is dried as it is drawn by rollers 15, 16 over a stationary plate 1 of bowed convex form, heated from below. Infra-red heating elements 26 heat the fabric from above and assist in its drying out; a moisture meter is provided at 24. The temperature of plate 1 is above 212‹F but below the scorching point of the fabric. The peripheral speed of feed rollers, 2, 3 is less than "that of drawing-off rollers 15, 16 so that the fabric is stretched during drying. For simultaneously drying a number of ribbons of. fabric, bars 12 and 22 fitted with spaced pins 13 and 23 respectively are provided.
