Abstract
763,933. Ornamenting fabrics and paper. BLEACHERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd., and BRADFORD DYERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd. Nov. 13, 1953 [Nov. 15, 1952], No. 28885/52. Drawings to Specification. Classes 42 (1) and 96. [Also in Group XV] Fabrics which are capable of being extended, such as textile fabrics, paper, leather and those composed wholly or partly of fibrous or plastic materials, are ornamented by subjecting at least one region of the fabric to stretching, other adjacent regions being continuously or intermittently permitted some freedom from stretching whereby the stretched or extended region or regions becomes or become raised from their normal state of flat alignment, and ruffles, ribs, frills or like variations of shape are produced. The stretching may be effected by operating a compressive shrinking machine in reverse ; the machines disclosed in U.S.A. Specification 2,021,975, when adapted as disclosed in Specification 752,191 are suitable. The selective extension may be fixed by the application of heat, 'in the case of thermoplastic fabrics, by pre-treatment with resins or other fixing agents which are set by heat during or after the extending process, or by treatment with chemical reagents. Textile fabrics composed wholly or mainly of cellulose acetate may be pre-treated with aqueous solutions of swelling or plasticizing substances, dried after removal of excess solution, submitted to the ornamenting process at a suitable temperature, and washed to remove the. swelling or plasticizing substance. Certain fabrics may be shrunk to below their normal length before subjecting them to localized stretching. Fabrics may be coloured during ornamentation by applying a paste containing colouring matter to the belt, roller, shoe or plate of the machine, or suspensions of dyes may be applied to the fabrics and caused to be absorbed by contact with heated surfaces during ornamentation. Specifications 359,759, 371,976, 372,803, 402,087 and 529,579 are referred to in the Provisional Specification.
