Abstract

1,273,311. Impregnating and drying webs; synthetic leather. VEPA A.G. 26 Jan., 1970 [6 Feb., 1969], No. 3737/70. Headings D1L and D1R. Materials simulating leather are made by applying a solution or dispersion of a thermosensitive bonding agent e.g. a synthetic latex to a textile, heating the textile, whilst free of contact with any transporting device, to coagulate the bonding agent, and thereafter mechanically removing excess liquor, optionally after a washing step, and drying on a sieve drum drier to cure or vulcanize the bonding agent. As disclosed material 2, which may be a felt or random web, is fed from a trough 1 into padder 5. The "contact-free" heater guides the material vertically between I-R heaters 9. Wash liquor is sprayed on at 14, followed by passage through rollers 15 and a sieve drum washing bath 16. The dryer 17 employs sieve-drums 18 having internal baffles 19.
