707,151. Spinning, twisting, weaving and warping. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS. May 16, 1951, No. 11493/51. Classes 120(2) and 142(2) [Also in Groups VIII, XVI and XXIX] 8 A worm shaft 31 driving a take-up shaft 12 is itself driven by the excess of the oil drag between a member 40 on the shaft and a constantly rotating clutch member 47 over that between the member 40 and a stationary brake member 42, the parts 40, 47, 42 being immersed in oil. The member 42 is initially located at a predetermined distance from the member 47 by a screw 36. Thereafter, increase in take-up tension will increase the tendency of the worm gear 25 to shift the worm shaft 31 axially against the action of a spring 72 and so to move the member 40 away from the clutch member towards the brake member to reduce the nett driving torque and reduction of the tension will allow the Spring to return the shaft. The initial pressure of spring 72 may be adjusted by a screw 75 bearing a graduated thimble 77.
