Abstract

706,618. Turbines. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. June 18, 1951 [June 22, 1950], No. 15657/50. Class 110 (3) In a turbine rotor in which a circumferential row of blades is mounted on the rotor, each of the blades is detachably fastened to the adjacent blades in the row by means involving complementary hooking members or closed eyelets engaging a common pin so as to form a closed chain resistant to circumferential tension, in addition to the fastening of the blades to the rotor. Each block may have a tongue 3 and a groove 4, which engage corresponding parts on the adjacent blades and pins which are inserted through holes in the engaging parts also pass through the rim of the rotor. The blade roots have serrations at their end faces 6 which engage corresponding serrations in the peripheral groove in the rotor. The blade root in Fig. 4b has a part-circular projection 12 on one side and a correspondingly-shaped recess 11 at the opposite side, a hole 7 being formed in the projection 12 for a pin. The blade root in Fig. 5b has two projections 15, 16 and corresponding recesses 13, 14. The blade root shown in Fig. 8 also has cooling fins 23, 24 which project into a recess in the rotor a pin also passing through the interengaging fins of adjacent blades. Cooling air escapes through a clearance between the blade roots into the working fluid passage. The peripheral groove 20 in Fig. 6 has a gap 17 with serrated ends 18 in one of the walls, through which the blade roots are inserted, the gap being closed by a correspondingly-shaped closure member 19 so that the loop strength of the rim is not impaired.
