Abstract

706,546. Toy guns &c. MARX & CO.. Ltd., L. (Marx. Inc., L.). Sept. 25, 1952, No. 24087/52. Class 132(3) A toy gun comprises a firing mechanism for firing caps, the firing mechanism being carried by a breech plate 1 which is withdrawably mounted in a recess 2 beneath the barrel at the breech end of the gun. A trigger guard 9 is integral with the plate 1 and the firing mechanism may be withdrawn, Fig. 2, for loading or inspection but is normally held in position by a projection 63 on a finger guard 5, the projection engaging a spring 61 in the stock of the gun. The firing mechanism comprises a trigger 31 having a slot 36 and pivoted on a pin 35 which also carries a trigger return spring 37. A toe 50 at one end of the trigger is engageable with a cam flat 51 on the underside of a striker arm 21 integral with a hammer plate 22 which is normally urged anti-clockwise on a pivot pin 24 by a spring 25. A cap feed detent 43 is pivoted on the trigger and has an ear 42 through which the end 39 of spring 37 passes. To prepare the gun for operation, the end of a coil of caps is placed between a striker plate 18 and a feed finger 47. On " firing," the trigger first moves rearwardly and horizonally to the position shown in Fig. 3, after which angular displacement of the trigger causes hammer plate 22 to swing clockwise against the action of spring 25, the cap strip is advanced by finger 47, and the toe 50 rides over the end of cam flat 51. The hammer plate is thus released and the cap is fired between the plate 18 and head 20 of the striker arm 21. On release, the trigger is free to return to its normal position under the action of spring 37.
