Abstract
703,372. Discharging furnaces. ALUMINIUM LABORATORIES, Ltd. July 26, 1951 [Sept. 21, 1950], No. 17743/51. Class 51 (2) Apparatus for the discharge of solid particulate material from a furnace comprises a refractoryfaced opening 19 for discharge of the material in a predetermined path, a movable refractoryfaced gate 22 for closing said opening and supplemental sealing means exterior of the gate for preventing communication between the outside atmosphere and the interior of the furnace through said opening, said supplemental sealing means comprising a door 41 normally closed across said path and movable to a position clear of said path, and a frame 34 sealed to the furnace and mechanically engaged in direct sealed contact by the door in its closed position, said frame being spaced away from and clear of the aforesaid path. As shown in Fig. 1 the discharging mechanism is enclosed by the frame or housing 34 and the furnace is discharged, under control of the horizontally-movable gate 22, through a hopper 40 normally closed by the door 41. The gate is operated by a fluid-Pressure cylinder 45. In a modification, Fig. 4, a door 82 is held in the closed position by a fluid-pressure actuated ram 94 having a plunger rod 95 which bears against a projecting part 90 of the door. When raised by means of a cable 88, the door occupies the position indicated at 87.
