Abstract

1414054 Pneumatic actuators B B C BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 10 July 1973 [12 July 1972] 32846/73 Heading F1D [Also in Division H1] An explosive drive apparatus, particularly for operating switchgear comprises a piston 1 disposed in a chamber 2 of rectangular cross-section, the cross-sectional area of the chamber increasing in the direction of travel of the piston during a power stroke, and means mounted on the piston to maintain a seal between the piston and walls of the chamber over the range of travel of the piston during the power stroke. The sealing means may comprise members 6 pivoted on the piston 1 with sealing strips 10 biased against the chamber walls 2a, 2b by corrugated spring strips 9. Gases from a propellant charge (not shown) are admitted to the chamber through an opening 5 and are discharged through ports 12 and vents 13 when the piston nears or reaches the end of its stroke.
