Abstract

1320430 Actuation of switches BROWN BOVERI CO Ltd 7 Dec 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 56785/71 Heading H1N An actuating mechanism for a circuit-breaker comprises a double acting piston 20 moved in opposite directions by gas charges generated by firing respective explosive cartridges 6 in an arrangement having a rotary member 8a with two slots 24, 26 each functioning alternately as a cartridge receiving chamber and as a cartridge firing chamber, the member 8a being turned alternately in opposite directions by the gas pressure. The arrangement also includes means for feeding a fresh cartridge into each slot when at a cartridge receiving station from a magazine associated with the respective station, and ducts 23, 23<SP>1</SP> used alternately to feed successive charges of gas to opposite sides of the piston. The rotary member is locked in each of its two positions by a bolt 31 engaging a respective hole 30 in the member 8a, the bolt being briefly withdrawn by a crank 34 which is operated by a sleeve 32. The sleeve is moved by a collar on the piston rod 21 when the piston nears the end of its travel. The member 8a is carried by a casing 27 which has openings through which the spent cartridges are ejected as the member 8a moves from one position to the other, these openings being provided with non-return flaps 28 biased by springs 29. The arrangement also includes two pairs of magazines, the first pair when empty being replaced by the second pair and a signal being given when the second pair are partly empty, Figs. 1-3 (not shown).
