Abstract

[Also in Division F1] At the bottom of a foundry sand hopper (not shown) gate body 11 is fixed on which is mounted gates 23 and 24 pivoted at 19 and 20 and interacting by gears 39, 41. The gates are operated by air cylinder 47 of which the piston 48 and cylinder casing are secured to the respective gates at 53 and 54. Control of gates 23, 24 (Fig. 2).-This is effected by the engagement of boss 77 fixed on gate 23 with knob 76 of valve 70 in the pneumatic circuit. The operator pulls cord 84 to cause air to enter cylinder 47 to pivotally open the gates 23, 24. At the end of the opening movement, boss 77 engages knob 76 to cause reversal of the movement of the cylinder so that the gates now close, whereupon the action of opening and closing repeats itself. the movement being rapid so as to facilitate the discharge of the material from the hopper. Pneumatic circuit (Fig. 5).-The action is started by the operator pulling the cord 84 to operate valve 80. This allows air from 81 to operate valve 60 to cause cylinder 49 to open the gates 23, 24. Gate 23 moves rightwards and engages knob 76 to close valve 70 and permit air via line 69 to operate valve 60 to cause cylinder 49 to close the gates. This repeats.
