Abstract
702,763. Fireguards. BROAD & CO., Ltd. Jan. 22, 1952 [Feb. 27, 1951], No. 4772/51. Class 126. An open domestic fireplace having a tiled surround is provided at the top of, and within, the fireplace opening behind the ornamental surface of the surround with either a hook, eye, staple or like member for engaging a hook pivotally attached to a fireguard or a socket adapted to receive and retain such a hook, eye, staple or like member. As shown in Fig. 2, a fireguard 17 is held secure in front of an open fire by means of a hook 18 engaging a metal eye 16 which has its shank embedded in the cement at the centre of the top of the opening 11 so that it projects down into the opening but is set back from the tiles 10. Various other forms of eye member are described in the Specification.
