702,252. Oil gas generators. ALLIED CHEMICAL & DYE CORPORATION. May 28, 1952 [July 25, 1951], No. 13517/52. Class 55 (2) In a process as described in Specification 702,249 for making oil gas with the characteristics of natural gas in which apparatus similar to a carburetted water gas set is employed, including a furnace reactor 1, a reactor 25 and a fixer 34, gas oil &c. being introduced into a free space of both reactors and steam at the base of the furnace reactor in the make period the mixture being subjected to radiant heat from the refractory linings, the oil is directed into the reactor in countercurrent to the gases. As shown, the furnace reactor is connected to the base of the reactor constituting a dust collecting chamber 27 separated from the main part 29 by a restricted passage 28, and the oil inlet 32 at the top sprays oil down on to the ascending gases, which escaping at the top pass downwardly through the fixer. In another arrangement in which the gases flow down the reactor and up the fixer an oil inlet is disposed near the base of the reactor. Oil residuums and heavy oils may be employed.
