Abstract
235,427. Holden, T. F. Sept. 3, 1924. Carburetting. - In apparatus for making carburetted water gas according to the process described in Specification 235,428 comprising a producer 1, a carburettor 20, and a regenerating chamber 30 the carburettor contains an economising chamber 12 connected to the top and bottom of the producer, a primary mixing chamber 21 and a secondary chamber 26 filled with chequer work. The primary chamber is formed with a horse-shoeshaped wall 23, which divides the gas stream into two parts before it meets the carburetting oil introduced from a spray 24. The heat imparted to the wall 23 causes it to expand into contact with the upper part 23' of the carburettor and also serves to vapourize the oil. Steam for the up and down runs is introduced into the producer through pipes 7, 7<1>. Coal or natural gas may be introduced through an inlet 17 while secondary air is introduced through an inlet 16. The top and bottom six rows of chequer work in the superheater are of standard chequer brick and are separated by rows of blast furnace brick 2¥ inches square by 9 inches long. Each course of the top six rows is spaced # inch wider apart than the preceding course.
